The History of the Casino The word " casino ", of Italian origin, literally means " small house ". It indicates a place of relaxation, away from the active heart of the city. The casino is intended for sociability, and every notable has one. In France, the word casino is truly itself adopted the language until the mid- 19th century in a rather special sense peddled by architects as schools of Fine Arts sent to train in Italy. The casino is first of all a village hall (meaning still preserved today) or even a performance hall such as this Cadet casino (rue Cadet, in Paris) inaugurated in 1859 or, much more famous but also much later, the Casino de Paris, which dates only to 1890.
